History of St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, Buda, Texas

In 1985, a small band of Episcopalians realized the need for an Episcopal Church to be established in Northern Hays County. This group approached Bishop Scott Field Bailey of the Diocese of West Texas, who agreed to establish St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Buda as a mission of the Diocese.

Small, struggling, yet faithful, the group met regularly in individual homes and in a dance studio. In 1987, five acres of land were purchased just outside of Buda and a portable building (a former temporary bank branch) was procured and moved onto the site. This building served the growing congregation well until the morning of October 13, 1992, when it burned to the ground.

On that same morning, the congregation began to rebuild. Their efforts came to fruition after nearly three years of hard work with a new building in 1995 serving as a church home for a membership of over 75 families.

The new building soon proved to be inadequate for the ever increasing congregation. In 2000 the church building was expanded to nearly double in size, and in 2001 the Mission Hall was completed. With the help of the Vicar and by the people reaching out to the community to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, the congregation expects to continue its growth.

"Living, Loving, Sharing" continues to be the evangelic approach the congregation takes to welcome newcomers into the congregation, and we welcome you to share in that approach with us.
