Greetings St. Liz,
The Woods family is very excited to begin our time with you this coming week. It has been a long hot summer for us as I am sure it has been the same for you.
I am writing this after standing outside with our oldest daughter, Harper, as we watched a nice little summer rainstorm pour down upon us. It was just long enough that it knocked the heat out of the air and left a cool breeze in its wake. It was cool enough that we actually felt like spending more than ten minutes outside after the storm passed. ...Read More
Rev. Mike Woods appointed as Vicarby Maddie Spearman on June 30, 2022
Dear friends in Christ,
The wait is over! Your Bishop’s Committee is thrilled to announce that Bishop Reed has appointed the Rev. Mike Woods to be the next vicar of St. Elizabeth’s. His first Sunday with us will be August 21, 2022.
Father Mike currently lives in San Marcos with his wife, Tami, and children, Harper (12), Hudson (9) and Hadyn (6). You can read more about Father Mike in his greeting letter to St. Liz, which is attached.
Father Mike and his family are a prayer answered for St. Liz. There will be more information to follow in the coming weeks, and preparations will be made to properly welcome the Woods family to St. Liz. In the meantime, we rejoice that the Holy Spirit has brought us to the next chapter of pastoral leadership at St. Liz.
Welcome message from Rev. Mike Woods to the St. Liz community:
Greetings to the community of St. Liz!
I can’t tell you how excited I am to hear that Bishop Reed has appointed me to be your next vicar! My wife, Tami, our kids, Harper (12), Hudson (9), and Hadyn (6) are also very excited to meet you all as we begin our new journey and life in ministry at St. Liz.
I want to take a moment to share with you a little about myself. I was not born in TX, but my family moved to Corpus Christi in 1986 where we were charter members of St. Mark’s (a new mission in the DWTX at the time). Thirty one of the next thirty six years have been spent growing up and working in and around the Diocese of West Texas. I am a child of Camp Capers and have grown to love all of our diocesan camping programs including a very recent week serving as the chaplain for the junior high adventure camp at Duncan Park in Colorado. I have some great pictures to share if you are interested!
I graduated from the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX in 2017. I served as the curate and was then hired as the Associate Rector at St. Mark’s in San Marcos for the past 5 years. Before earning my MDiv at SSW, I worked as a full-time lay associate in the Episcopal church for 14 years. I started full-time work in the church as a youth minister in 2000 under The Rt. Rev. Gary Lillibridge while he was still the rector of St. David’s in San Antonio. I also served as the Deputy for Youth Ministries in the Diocese of West Texas diocesan offices and was the Staff Director at Camp Capers for 2 summers during that time. Tami and I then moved to the Diocese of Hawaii where I served as the Family Ministries Associate at St. Peter's Episcopal church in Honolulu while also serving as the Canterbury Chaplain to college students at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. We spent 5 amazing years in Hawaii and then moved back to this diocese where I served as the Lay Associate to the Rector for St. Alban's Episcopal church in Harlingen, TX. This is when I discerned my call to ordained ministry and was sent to the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin.
Our family loves the outdoors, swimming, hiking, and spending time together. You can often find me out on a disc golf or just a normal golf course getting my frustrations out. Tami and I both enjoy reading, travel, and all things food. Our kids are into all kinds of things right now, especially since it is summer. There seems to be no shortage of camps for them to sign up for - including a personal favorite of mine - bouldering camp!
Our first Sunday with you will be August 21st. Tami, the kids, and I are looking forward to meeting each and every one of you! We are most especially looking forward to seeing what God is up to in Buda, TX!
Peace and much love,
